I love to read a lot, the truth is that about five years ago I didn’t read so much. I started reading books and never finished them, not because they were bad, but because I was easily distracted and did not pay so much attention to reading. On the other hand, my mother loved to read from the first to the last page and she did it constantly. Five years ago she moved from here to there and I found myself looking and trying to understand more about life, death and our existence. That’s when I started reading books from the fifth to the last page. Yes, I said from the fifth or something like that because I have to be honest, I never read the introductions, but now I read the rest of the pages of all the books I buy and I really enjoy reading them.

I thank my mother for encouraging the habit of reading in me and all the authors for giving me the opportunity to acquire a little knowledge. That’s why I want to share with you different titles of the books I’ve already read and what I like about them and maybe some questions to think about while reading. Enjoy!

The Proximity Principle by Ken Coleman

?In The Proximity Principle, Ken Coleman offers a practical approach to achieving career success by highlighting the power of being in the right places, with the right people, at the right time. Coleman’s central argument is that proximity—to experts, mentors, and opportunities—can help propel you toward your career goals faster than trying to navigate the path alone.

The book is divided into sections that focus on three main strategies: getting around the right people, getting into the right places, and practicing the right habits. Coleman emphasizes the importance of surrounding yourself with professionals who are doing what you want to do, whether by finding a mentor or working in environments that foster growth and learning.

While reading The Proximity Principle, here are some self-reflective questions that can help yourself to get the most out of the book: 

  1. What opportunities or people are currently within your reach that could help you in your career or personal growth? Are there any you haven’t yet considered or explored?
  2. How do you typically build relationships with those in your field or industry? What steps can you take to connect more intentionally with people who inspire or challenge you?
  3. Coleman talks about getting into the right environments to thrive. What environments have helped you succeed in the past? What environments do you want to seek out now?
  4. In what areas of your career or life are you waiting for the “perfect” opportunity, and how could you instead create opportunities by placing yourself in proximity to the right people or places?
  5. How can you take action this week to apply one of the principles from the book?

Your Erroneous Zones by Dr. Wayne Dyer

I really like this book! Is a book from 1976 but still have a lot of meaning thru this day. The guidance is for people to understand that if we become aware of our self defeating thoughts we can work with our “erroneous zones” and live a more self fulfilling life. The book introduces the concept of “erroneous zones”—psychological traps like guilt, worry, and approval-seeking—that keep people from reaching their full potential.

Dyer’s approach is practical and straightforward, offering readers strategies to challenge irrational beliefs and negative patterns. His tone is motivational, sometimes almost confrontational, pushing readers to take responsibility for their own happiness. The key message is that personal happiness is a choice, and individuals have the power to control their thoughts and emotions.

While reading Your Erroneous Zones, here are some self-reflective questions that can help you get the most out of the book:

  1. What self-defeating behaviors do I engage in regularly? Are there patterns of negative thinking, like worry or guilt, that hold me back?
  2. In what areas of my life do I struggle with indecision? How much of my indecision is influenced by fear of failure or judgment?
  3. Am I living in the present, or am I preoccupied with the past or future? How can I bring more mindfulness into my daily life?
  4. What beliefs or assumptions am I holding onto that are limiting me?
  5. What steps can I take to break free from these erroneous zones?What small actions or changes in thinking can I start applying today to improve my emotional well-being?
